A breath analyser device (1, fig 1) comprises an inlet region (2, fig 1) and a sensor arrangement (3, fig 1), the inlet region being configured to receive a breath sample from a test subject and direct the sample to the sensor arrangement. The sensor arrangement is configured to provide a signal representative of the concentration of a volatile substance, such as alcohol, within the sample. The inlet region includes a heater (20, 24) arranged between a sample inlet port 6, which is open to atmospheric air outside the device (1); and a sample outlet port 11, which is open to the sensor arrangement. The heater (20, fig 4) extends at least part way along a tortuous flow channel (18, fig 3) which extends between the inlet port and the outlet port in the direction of said sample to the sensor arrangement. Preferably, the heater is in the form of one or more heating elements formed on a polymeric film provided as a length of tape 14. The heater may prevent the formation of condensation within the device. The device may form part of an alco-lock for a motor vehicle. |
