摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a multi-phase rotary machine capable of avoiding that a rotational speed region of a motor generator 10 that can specify short circuit failures of switching elements Sjp and Sjn (j=u, v, and w) is restricted. <P>SOLUTION: Under a situation where all switching elements Sjp and Sjn provided in an inverter IV are operated to be in an off state, a phase current is sampled at every 90&deg; of an electric angle of a motor generator 10, and a determination current for each phase is calculated as an average value of four phase currents sampled in one cycle of the phase current. On the basis of an absolute value and polarity of the determination current for each phase, it is specified in which one of the all switching elements Sjp and Sjn provided in the inverter IV short circuit failures occur.
