The invention relates to a method and a device for adjusting a knife assembly (2) of a knife ring (1) to a predetermined knife projection, wherein the knife assembly (2) is designed to be arranged in the knife ring (1) at a chip angle cp, relative to the inside of the knife ring (1). The knife assembly (2) is formed by a knife holding plate (11) and a chipping knife (12) which are positively connected with one another in a predetermined, relative target position. The inventive method provides the following method steps: a) Provision of a knife assembly (2) to be adjusted, wherein the knife holding plate (11) and the chipping knife (12) are displaceable relative to one another. b) Displacement of the knife holding plate (11) in its plane, transversely to its direction of longitudinal extension towards its rear edge (27), against a first stop (31). c) Displacement of the chipping knife (12) in its plane, transversely to its direction of longitudinal extension, relative to the knife holding plate (11) towards its blade (19), against the stop surface (37) of a second stop, until the predetermined knife projection has been reached, wherein the stop surface (37) forms an angle with the chipping knife (12) that corresponds to the chip angle cp. d) Force-fitted clamping of the chipping knife (12) and the knife holding plate (11). A device suitable for carrying out the inventive method has a mounting surface (23) for the knife assembly (2) that is to be adjusted, a first stop (31) acting transversely to the longitudinal direction of the knife holding plate (11) and interacting with the rear edge (27) of the knife holding plate (11), and a second stop acting transversely to the longitudinal direction of the chipping knife (12) and interacting with the blade (19) of the chipping knife (12). The second stop has a stop surface (37) at which the blade (19) of the chipping knife (12) adjoins when the knife projection is being adjusted.
