PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a textured material with high adhesion to a friction material.SOLUTION: A workpiece includes a workpiece material with a material face and a first plurality of barbs and a second plurality of barbs extending integrally from the material face. Each barb has a height above the material face. The first plurality of barbs are at least 10% higher than the second plurality of barbs. The first plurality of barbs include at least 10% of the barbs on the material face, and the second plurality of barbs include at least 10% of the barbs on the material face.
