PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device that has blocked oxygen and water on the outside and improved reliability.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes a substrate 110 that includes a display area and a peripheral area, a thin-film transistor that is located on the substrate 110, a pixel electrode that is connected to the thin-film transistor, a roof layer 230 that is arranged opposite to the pixel electrode, a capping layer 390 that is located on the roof layer 230, and a blocking film EB that is located in the peripheral area and surrounds a lateral face part of the capping layer 390. The display area has a plurality of microcavities 305 formed between the pixel electrode and roof layer 230; the microcavities 305 form a liquid crystal layer including a liquid crystal material; and the level of an upper surface of the blocking film EB is higher than the level of an upper surface of the liquid crystal layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
