PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition for coating an optical fiber which is excellent in flame retardancy, long-term heat resistance and mechanical characteristics of an optical fiber cable.SOLUTION: A resin composition for coating an optical fiber contains a vinyl chloride resin (A) and a melt tension improving agent (B). An optical fiber cable has an optical fiber 10 and a coating layer 20 formed of the resin composition for coating the optical fiber on the outer periphery of the optical fiber 10.
