PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an appearance inspection device that can perform an inspection at an optimal white balance at any time.SOLUTION: An appearance inspection device A including: a camera 1; an inspection reference plane 2; and a light source 3 comprises: a calibration reference plate 4; an advance/retreat mechanism 5 that causes the calibration reference plate 4 to advance and retreat between a calibration position in a shooting area of the camera 1 and a retreat position retreated from the calibration position; and a control unit 6 that gives the camera 1 a white balance adjustment command when the calibration reference plate 4 is at the calibration position. At a non-inspection time when an appearance inspection is not performed, the control unit 6 gives the advance/retreat mechanism 5 a drive command causing the calibration reference plate 4 to move to the calibration position, an adjustment command adjusting an amount of light of the light source 3, and the white balance adjustment command.
