System for starting and power generation in a vehicle

The system has an on-off switch (K1) connected between an electrical network and a negative terminal of a battery (11). A changeover switch (K2) is connected to a positive terminal of a battery (10) and the network. The switch (K2) is connected in one position (T) to an alternator-starter and a positive terminal of the battery (11) and in another position (R) connected to a common point between the switch (K1) and the negative terminal. The alternator-starter produces electricity in an electric generator mode, for supplying loads, and mechanical energy in an electric motor mode for starting a heat engine.
