The present invention relates to a method for cultivating lettuce by Paenibacillus mucilaginosus C23 (accession number KACC91963P) and Bacillus ehimensis C25 (accession number KACC91964P), capable of significantly degrading the same at a rapid speed in comparison with the conventional chitosan-degrading microorganisms. Provided is the method for promoting the growth of lettuce and increasing functional (polyphenol, flavonoid, and electron-donating ability) contents, in the case of the application to the cultivation of the lettuce as a fermented product of chitosan using the microorganisms.
