According to an embodiment of the present invention, disclosed is a method for operating an ultrasonic transducer which effectively tracks a resonant frequency of a piezoelectric element. The ultrasonic transducer comprises: a converter applying alternating current voltage to a piezoelectric element, and allowing alternating current to flow in the piezoelectric element; a phase comparison unit for outputting an output signal representing a phase of the alternating current voltage and a phase order of the alternating current; and a control unit for changing a frequency of the alternating current voltage based on the output signal outputted by the phase comparison unit.
