Drive belt (3) for a continuously variable transmission with an endless carrier (4) and with transverse segments (1). each comprising a base part lying below a slot, a top part lying above such slot and a middle part lying on an axially closed side of the slot and connecting the said bottom and top parts, whereof the endless carrier (4) is located in and extends through the slots of the transverse segments (1). The underside (9) of the top part (13) of the transverse segment (1) facing the endless carrier (4) is shaped to initially contact the endless carrier (4) away from both the (axial) sides and the (axial) middle of the endless carrier (4) upon rotation or translation of the transverse segment (1) relative to the carrier (4). |
