This motor drive device has a plurality of control systems for individually supplying a drive current to a plurality of coil groups included in a motor. The motor drive device sets a current command value individually for each of the control systems. A drive command is issued to the drive circuit of an inverter for each of the control systems on the basis of the set current command value, whereby a drive current is supplied from the inverter to the coil group. In this motor drive device, a fault in the inverter or the coil group is detected for each of the control systems, and solely the operation of the faulty control system is stopped or degraded. In addition, this motor drive device has a main computation device and a reserve computation device. Therefore, even when the main computation device develops a fault, as long as the reserve computation device is operating normally, the motor can continue to be driven using some of the control systems. |
