An assembly (56) is provided for a turbine engine (20). This turbine engine assembly (56) includes a combustor wall 70,72 including a first layer 82 vertically connected with a second layer 80. A first portion 90,92 of the first layer 82 overlaps and is vertically spaced from the second layer 80 by a cavity 84. A second portion 88 of the first layer 82 is substantially vertically inline with an adjacent portion of the second layer 80. The second portion 88 of the first layer 82 at least partially forms a quench aperture 68 vertically through the combustor wall 70,72.
