The present invention provides a process of treating complex sulfide concentrate, comprising the steps of(a) roasting wet or slurried complex sulfide concentrate in a furnace at a temperature of at least 720°Cto obtain a cal- cine; and (b) smelting the calcine obtained in step (b) under inert or oxygen free atmosphere in a smelting furnace (20) to obtain a matte, and optionally (c) granulating the matte obtained in step (b) to obtain a granulated matte.
