The purpose of the present invention is to provide an air conditioner which comprises an outdoor heat exchanger with improved heat exchange efficiency. In order to achieve this purpose, the air conditioner in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, comprises: a compressor; a flow switching part which switches a flow direction of a refrigerant depending on the cooling or heating operation; the outdoor heat exchanger which is connected to the flow switching part, and includes a plurality of refrigerant pipes for guiding a refrigerant that exchanges heat with outdoor air; a main expansion valve arranged on one side of the outdoor heat exchanger; a first inlet-outlet pipe extended from the flow switching part to the outdoor heat exchanger; and a second inlet-outlet pipe extended from the outdoor heat exchanger to the main expansion valve. In regards to this, the outdoor heat exchanger includes: headers which consist of an upper header and a lower header; a check valve which is installed between the upper header and the lower header, and guides a flow of a refrigerant in one direction; and a by-pass pipe which is extended from the lower header to the second inlet-outlet pipe, and guides discharge of a liquid refrigerant that exists in the lower header, wherein the by-pass pipe has a by-pass pipe valve for controlling the amount of a refrigerant that flows through the by-pass pipe. |
