Disclosed is a method of operating a switched-reluctance motor in an electric supercharger. The method comprises controlling current in a plurality of phases to respective pluralities of coils AA', BB', CC'. For each phase A,B,C the control comprises repeatedly (i) starting supply of the current to the coils AA', BB', CC', (ii) stopping the supply of current to those coils AA', BB', CC' and (iii) eliminating the circulating current from those coils AA', BB', CC'. The timings of the starting, stopping and eliminating steps of the first phase A are provided from a first source, such as a first look-up table. The timing of at least one of the steps IN, FW, OFF in the second phase B are obtained from a second source such as a second look up table, such that the timing of the at least one step ON, OFF, FW is different to the timing of the corresponding step in the first phase. |
