PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasound imaging standoff capable of reducing artifacts in adhering an outside surface of a patient and performing volume scanning.SOLUTION: An ultrasound imaging standoff 28 has a stiffer portion 32 for contact with a volume transducer 30, and a flexible portion 34 filled with viscous fluid 36 for conforming to a patient, resulting in fewer or no air gaps. Pressure is applied through the standoff 28 to cause the connective tissue to flatten, resulting in fewer shadowing artifacts.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
