PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: soft magnetic flat powder small in average particle diameter, superior in moldability into a sheet, and high in magnetic permeability; and a method for manufacturing such soft magnetic flat powder.SOLUTION: Soft magnetic flat powder is produced by flattening soft magnetic powder made of an Fe-Si-Al alloy. The flat powder has an average particle diameter Dsmaller than 30-50 μm. The flat powder is characterized in that: the coercive force Hc measured with a magnetic field applied to the flat powder in a longitudinal direction is 176 A/m or less; the ratio of the tap density to the true density is 0.18 or less; the specific surface area BET value is 0.6 m/g or more; the oxygen content is 0.6 mass% or less; and the BET value of the soft magnetic powder and the oxygen value satisfy the following formula (1): Oxygen Value/BET Value≤0.50 (exclusive of 0) (1).SELECTED DRAWING: None
