This door latch device for a vehicle is provided with: a body having a striker entry groove, into which a striker enters in conjunction with a closing movement of a door, formed on one surface thereof; a latch engaging with the striker and being capable of rotating from an open position to a latch position; a pole being biased so as to rotate from a release position, in which engagement with the latch is released, in the direction of an engagement position, in which the pole can be engaged with the latch in the latch position, rotating from the engagement position to the release position in conjunction with rotation of the latch, and constraining the door to a closed position by rotating from the release position to the engagement position due to the biasing force and engaging with the latch; and a buffer comprising an elastic member. The body has an opening on the side opposite to the surface on which the striker entry groove is formed, and has a buffer assembly hole that accommodates the buffer which is inserted from the opening, and the buffer is disposed in the backmost portion of the striker entry groove and makes contact with the striker having entered, and makes contact with the pole which rotates from the release position to the engagement position. This makes it possible to provide a door latch device for a vehicle, said device having improved assembly efficiency. |
