A (toroidal) variator for transmitting rotary motion between a rotary variator input and a rotary variator output is provided. The variator comprises a first biasing device (474) and a second biasing device (488) and are defined by a first, input gain (G i) and a second, output gain (G o) wherein the first, input gain (G i) and the second, output gain (G o) are calculated according to the following formulas: G i = F eli / T i where G i is the input gain, T i is the input torque and F eli is the first biasing force; G o = F elo / T o where G o is the input gain, T o is the applied input torque and F elo is the second biasing force. According to the invention, the first, input gain and second, output gain are different, which, at least in specific variator applications, optimises the traction coefficient. |
