Described is an apparatus for providing a spread-spectrum to a clock signal. The apparatus comprises: an oscillator for generating an output clock signal, and receiving an adjustable reference signal to adjust a frequency of the output clock signal; a first circuit for providing a first signal representing a center frequency of the output clock signal; a second circuit for generating a switching waveform to provide spectrum-diffusion on the output clock signal; and a third circuit coupled to the first and second circuits, and providing the adjustable reference signal according to the first signal and the switching waveform.
