MOVING PICTURE DECODING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve reduction of the amount of a code and enhancement of subjective image quality in encoding and decoding of a moving picture.SOLUTION: A moving picture decoding method includes the steps of: inputting an encoded stream: performing variable length decoding processing to the input encoded stream; performing inverse quantization processing and inverse frequency conversion processing to the data subjected to the variable length decoding processing in a first block unit to generate prediction difference; performing prediction processing in a second block unit; and generating a decoded image on the basis of the generated prediction difference, and result of the prediction processing. The first block unit is larger than the second block unit. Consequently, reduction of the amount of a code and enhancement of subjective image quality can be more suitably achieved.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
