PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head-up display device that can suppress decrease in use efficiency of light or decrease in luminance uniformity of a displayed image.SOLUTION: A head-up display device 100 projects display light L emitted from a display unit 3 comprising a backlight unit 1 and a liquid crystal display element 2 onto a viewing region of an observer by projection means so as to allow the observer to visually recognize an image represented by the display light L. The backlight unit 1 includes: a light source 10 that emits light I to illuminate the liquid crystal display element 2; a lens array 40 that divides the light I exiting from the light source 10 to produce a plurality of images of the light source 10; and condensing means 51, 52 that condenses the light I exiting from images of the light source 10 to be mapped to the display region of the liquid crystal display element 2. The condensing means 51, 52 is configured to have different focal lengths between in a vertical direction and in a lateral direction so as to correct a difference in the focal length of the projection means between in the vertical direction and in the lateral direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
