PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a smoking article that is easy to hold with fingers or lips of a user.SOLUTION: A filter material plug 310 includes: a cylindrical plug made of cellulose acetate material; and a layer of a viscoelastic material 500 provided on the outward-facing surface of the plug. The layer of the viscoelastic material 500 may be bonded to the surface of the cellulose acetate material by using a suitable bonding agent. The viscoelastic material 500 may cover the entire surface of the plug. The viscoelastic material 500 comes in direct contact with fingers and/or lips of a user during smoking. A tipping material 400 may be the one having a ring shape, so that the tipping material 400 is restricted within a region of a smoking article directly neighboring a joint part between a rod and a filter. As seen from the figure, the ring-shaped tipping material 400 does not extend to a mouthpiece end of the filter.
