A pre-fabricated reinforcement and formwork assembly (1) for a longitudinally extending structural element that includes a prefabricated longitudinally extending reinforcement cage (2); and an open ended formwork tube (3) extending around said longitudinally extending cage, the formwork tube including two opposed panels (6) and (7) each having a plurality of openings (9) disposed to align with a predetermined location relative to the reinforcement cage. A plurality of tensile ties (10) extend through the openings in the formwork tube panels to secure the panels about the reinforcement cage (2) and restrain the opposed panels under internal load. In preferred forms the ties are made of high strength flexible strapping. The formwork may be constructed in layers, with an inner tube secured to the cage and an outer tube secured over the completed inner tube assembly. |
