Provided are a treatment method and a treatment apparatus for ammonia-containing wastewater in which decline in the ammonia removal rate as the treatment time passes is minimized when treating ammonia-containing wastewater using a vapor-liquid separation membrane. This method for treating ammonia-containing wastewater includes an ammonia removal step in which, under conditions in which the magnesium ion concentration in ammonia-containing wastewater is less than a value calculated from equation (1), and, using an ammonia removal apparatus 16 equipped with a vapor-liquid separation membrane 26, ammonia is removed from the ammonia-containing wastewater, and a sulfuric acid solution is brought into contact with the removed ammonia, which is recovered in the form of ammonium sulfate.
