513,709. Adjustable folding chairs. LUCKHARDT, H., and LORENZ. A. April 27, 1938, No. 12597. Convention date, April 29, 1937. [Class 52 (ii)] The movable seating parts of a chair which is adjustable for sitting and reclining purposes are formed of a polygon of unequal links, pivotally suspended about a pivot in a fixed upright, characterised in that one of the pivot points of the movable polygon is displaceable in one of its links in such a manner that the links of the polygon and the fixed upright can be folded into two parallel planes. The polygon consists of links 4, 7, 11, 8, pivoted at three points and joined by a pin 19 in the slot 9. The supporting frame consists of struts 1, 2, pivoted at 3, the back rest 4 being pivoted to 1 at 5 and the slot in the arm rest 8 serving as a sliding surface on the front end of the upright 1 provided with a locking device 10. The chair may be moved into a reclining position as indicated by the dotted lines and further backward movement may be prevented by the clamping screw 10 which operates against a wedge-shaped sideface of the arm rest. Forward movement to the sitting position will not be,prevented due to the slope of the wedge. The chair may be folded as shown by lifting the back rest at 18 and the seat at 15. Alternatively it may be folded by lifting together the back rest 4 and foot rest 11, Fig. 5 (not shown). Specification 469,313 is referred to. |
