The present invention relates to a method for extracting a thumbnail of a video which comprises the following steps of: detecting at least one of scene change points of a video; setting an analysis window based on the number of required extraction thumbnails and a frame including the scene change points; measuring importance with regard to a plurality of frames included in the analysis window; selecting one of the frames included in the analysis window based on the measured importance; and storing the selected frame as a thumbnail. Therefore, the method can extract a thumbnail having high image quality with which a user can easily understand corresponding content.
