An oil cleaner comprises a casing 1, a rotary separator drum 3 within the casing, nozzles 6 projecting from the drum and discharging cleaned oil with a tangential component to drive the drum, and discharge ducts 5 extending two thirds of the drum height and connected to the nozzles. Oil to be cleaned passes from a channel 11 into the drum through ports 13 in the hollow shaft 4 rotating with the drum. The impurities collect at 17 and the cleaned oil after discharge from the nozzles passes through an opening 7 to a collector. In a modification the drum rotates about a fixed shaft.
