PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that in a well-known optical element, it is difficult to achieve a high transmittance since the transmittance is determined according to the pattern size of a light transmission region, and thereby, luminance of a display device mounting the optical element is decreased.SOLUTION: An optical element employs a structure in which an electrode 250 where electrophoretic particles 141 cohere in a wide viewing field mode is formed into a comb-like shape and light transmission regions 120 of a plurality of columns or a plurality of rows are disposed in the spaces between the comb teeth. By this structure, electrophoretic particles 141 are excluded from regions other than the comb-like electrode and the regions are changed into a transmissive state for light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
