PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile terminal whose idle state can be terminated by means of a user input of inclining the mobile terminal, and to provide a controlling method therefor.SOLUTION: A mobile terminal includes; a display unit configured to be off as long as the mobile terminal is in an idle state; a sensing unit configured to sense tilting of the mobile terminal toward either end thereof; a memory that stores a secret code for unlocking the mobile terminal provided that the secret code has been set; and a controller configured to terminate the idle state and turn on the display unit, when successive user inputs of tilting the mobile terminal are received while the mobile terminal is in the idle state and if a combination of the successive user inputs matches the secret code.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
