The invention relates to a filter device (10) for a motor vehicle, comprising at least one gas filter element (12) for filtering a gas which can be arranged in a corresponding housing (14), and at least one sensor device (22) for determining at least one parameter which is provided on the gas filter element (12) and has at least one transmission element (24), said parameter being transmissible wirelessly to an evaluation unit (26) by means of the transmission element (24) for evaluation of the parameter, characterized in that the sensor device (22) is designed for determining at least one of the following parameters: - a predefined installation position of the gas filter element (12) in the housing (14); and - a point in time at which the gas filter element (12) was mounted in the housing (14).
