In a spinning and doubling spindle 2 the outer race ring 13 of the lower bearing is fitted in a sheet metal collar 14 carried by the spindle carrying bush 3, the collar 14 being formed with edges 14a bent at right angles to the outside for locating the collar in position and a plurality of axial slits 14b in order to allow movement of the outer race ring 13. The outer race 13 is interposed between two sheet metal rings 15 of C-shaped radial cross-section, having slits 15a which allow them to be resiliently deformed by axial movement of the outer race ring 13.
