The present invention provides a system whereby standard padlocks are fitted to a lockbox which in turn secures a gate or security barrier. Inside the lockbox is a sliding mechanism, which includes a latch to secure a receiver from the gate or barrier, but has varying degrees of freedom of movement along a working axis, depending on the state of locking of the padlocks, and further on the presence or otherwise of a locknut or screw. The opening of any padlock will allow the release of the receiver and the opening of the gate or barrier. However, the padlocks cannot be removed in the ordinary course of the opening and closing of same. Hence, an operator with a key to only one of the padlocks can operate the gate without reference to the other padlock keyholder. The lockbox also facilitates a key holder removing their own padlock, but not the other. <Figure 2> |
