Process for treating waste, in particular household refuse, containing organic matter mixed with inerts, according to which: the waste is subjected to a first screening (2); the fraction (3) of waste that has passed through this first screening is subjected to a prefermentation treatment in a rotating tube (5); the waste, after prefermentation treatment, is subjected to a fine screening step (11) in order to only allow through a fraction of material having a size less than or equal to a dimension M, essentially corresponding to organic matter, and in order to give a fine screening oversize; the fine screening oversize (13) is subjected, after settling/separation of the inerts (16), to a mechanical and/or biological and/or chemical treatment (14) for the mobilization of the organic matter, this treatment being sufficient to break up the organic matter present in the fine screening oversize while ensuring the size of the inerts is maintained and while avoiding the fragmentation thereof and the fine screening oversize, after this treatment, is recirculated to the fine screening step (11). |
