PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and compositions comprising at least one thermolysin-like neutral protease enzyme with improved stability and/or catalytic activity, and cleaning agents or detergents comprising such compositions.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to the following: an isolated thermolysin variant having improved stability and/or performance; a thermolysin variant separated from a Geobacillus caldoproteolyticus or Geobacillus stearothermophilus variant; an isolated thermolysin variant, wherein the improvement comprises one or more of improved thermostability, improved performance under a pH of from about 5.0 to about 11.5, improved performance under higher pH conditions, and improved autolytic stability; a method for producing an enzyme having thermolysin activity, using a transformant; a composition comprising a thermolysin variant, wherein the composition is a cleaning composition or a detergent; and a composition comprising a thermolysin variant selected from among an animal feed composition, a textile processing composition, and a leather processing composition.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
