In order to provided with a dedicated holding unit for counterfeit notes only when counterfeit notes are found, a paper currency processing apparatus (1) is constituted by a money input port (10) for receiving paper currency that is inputted, a conveying path (50) for conveying one bill at a time of paper currency fed through the money input port (10) into the apparatus, an identification unit (30) for identifying paper currency conveyed on the conveying path (50), a paper-currency storage unit (60) for storing input paper currency, a money output port (20) via which paper currency dispensed from the paper-currency storage unit (60) is ejected, a temporary storage unit (40) used for temporarily storing paper currency being processed, and a control unit (90) for switching between using the temporary storage unit (40) as a normal temporary storage unit (40) or a counterfeit-note holding unit. |
