Polyvinyl derivative fibres, e.g. polyvinyl chloride fibres, are dyed with an anthraquinone dyestuff containing at least one group of the formula:-NH-(alkylene-O)n-CO-R wherein n is an integer, preferaby 1 or 2, and R is hydrogen or an alkyl group of less than 4 carbon atoms. The dyestuff may be applied, if desired, in admixture with other anthraquinone dyestuffs, as an aqueous dispersion or in an aqueous emulsion. In examples, the dyestuffs are applied in a hot aqueous bath containing p-chlortoluene and an ethylene oxide-lauryl alcohol condensation product. The dyestuffs may be prepared by condensation of an anthraquinone derivative with monoethanolamine or with monohydroxyethylhydroxyethylamine followed by esterification of the free hydroxy group with formic, acetic or propionic acid. Specified dyestuffs are acetoxyethylamino-anthraquinone, 1-methylamino-4-acetoxy-ethylamino-anthraquinone and the 2-bromo-, 6-chloro- and 5:8 dihydroxy derivatives, acetoxyethoxy-ethylamino-anthraquinone (prepared by condensing monohydroxy ethylhydroxyethylamine with a -chloroanthquinone in the presence of pyridiic and copper acetate and acetylating the product in the presence of pyridine) and 1-methylamino-4-acetoxy-ethoxy-ethylamin - anthraquinone.
