[Also in Group XVI] Embossed patterns are produced (see Group XVI) on a pile fabric by distributing thermoplastic powder throughout the pile 10 by agitating the fabric, applying pressure and heat to areas determined by the pattern to bind the depressed pile together and to the backing 11 and removing the unused thermoplastic material. The finished fabric has depressions 12b, the edges of the adjacent pile being bevelled at 33. As shown, the fabric is of the sewn tufted type and includes a woven backing sheet 11 of cotton. Fabrics which may be produced by the method may have pile made from wool, cotton, viscose rayon, nylon, or blends of such fibres.</p> |
