<p>775,327. Cutting glass tubing and the like. OWENS-ILLINOIS GLASS CO. May 10. 1955 [June 8, 1954], No. 13472/55. Class 56 Glass tubing or rod 45 is cut into lengths by: being moved under strain into contact with a constantly rotating cutter 16. The cutter is mounted at the front end of a lever arm 11 which is oscillated in a horizontal plane about a pivot 14 by means of the link 54, whereby the cutter moves along with the rod for part of its movement. The rod is supported by two rollers 70 carried by a framework connected to a shaft 72 which is periodically rocked by a cam 73 to raise the rollers and thereby the,rod into contact with the cutter. In its upward movement the rod contacts a gauge plate which is yieldingly- and adjustably mounted. The rollers 70 thus serve as an anvil during the severing of the rod. The severing action is assisted by paddles 109 striking downwardly on the leading end of the advanc-. ing rod.</p> |
