摘要 In a directed infrared countermeasure system, to assure parallelism between the line-of-sight to a target and the output beam, the input and output mirrors are fixedly attached to a uni-construction arm mounted to a rotatable azimuth platter to which internal mirrors are also fixedly attached. A system is provided for zeroing out alignment errors by developing an aim-point map for the gimbal that records initial alignment errors induced by manufacturing tolerances and uses the aim-point map error values to correct the output mirror orientation. The system also corrects for alignment errors induced by thermal gradients.

In a directed infrared countermeasure system that utilizes a pointer-tracker gimbal, a system to assure that the laser beam from the gimbal is parallel with the line-of-sight to a target, comprising: an elevation stage including an input mirror and an output mirror fixedly mounted to a uni-construction elevation arm; an azimuth stage including an azimuth platter rotatable about the azimuth axis; an assembly for mounting said elevation arm to said azimuth platter; an internal mirror assembly mounted to said azimuth platter; a camera at said gimbal and including a focal plane array and a telescope and having a centerline; a laser at said gimbal having an output beam directed along said centerline; and, azimuth and elevation stage drives operable to alter the position of said output mirror after target acquisition on said focal plane array to offset said azimuth and elevation stages in accordance with the error priorly recorded in an aim-point map to correct the angular orientation of said output mirror such that said output mirror is offset in accordance with the aim-point map error associated with the angle of the line-of-sight to said target for establishing parallelism between said line-of-sight and said laser beam, thus to minimize angular displacement between the two, said aim-point map being generated by providing a fixed reflective fiducial target at a distance from said gimbal, rotating said gimbal to a variety of positions to establish a number of lines of sight to said fixed reflective fiducial target at different angles relative to said gimbal, measuring the error between the beam reflected by said fixed reflective fiducial target onto said focal plane array and the image of said fixed reflective fiducial target on said focal plane array, thus to establish said error, and converting said error to an offset used to drive said elevation and azimuth stages of said gimbal to offset said output mirror for the repositioning thereof such that said output beam is redirected by said output mirror along a path parallel to the line-of-sight to said target.
