Apparatus for delivery of a defibrillation shock, wherein said apparatus comprises: at least one ECG signal detection unit, a chest compression measurement unit, a defibrillation shock delivery unit, and a processor, wherein said processor is configured to determine whether the patient has a shockable rhythm with a first algorithm and said first algorithm is adapted to analyze an ECU signal for shockable rhythms in the presence of artifacts generated by chest compression and wherein said first algorithm only performs reliably if a chest compression is present and wherein said processor is further configured to determine whether a patient has a shockable rhythm with a second algorithm and said second algorithm is adapted to analyze an ECG signal in the absence of chest compression and wherein the second algorithm only performs reliably if to chest compression is absent, said processor is able to identify a starting point and an end point of chest compression by analysing data from the chest compression measurement unit with a third algorithm and said processor is configured to switch to the first algorithm when the starting point of chest compression is identified and to switch to the second algorithm when the end point of chest compression is identified by said processor.
