PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device and a control method of an automatic transmission capable of reducing frequency of erroneous determination that detecting means disposed in the automatic transmission is failed though it is normal.SOLUTION: A control device of an automatic transmission includes transmission state detecting means for detecting a state of an automatic transmission, common power source control means for supplying electricity to a hydraulic control valve and the transmission state detecting means, failure determining means for determining that the transmission state detecting means is failed when an abnormality continuation period which is a period of continuation of a state that an output of the transmission state detecting means is abnormal, becomes a prescribed period or more, and reset means for temporarily stopping the supply of electricity to the hydraulic control valve and the transmission state detecting means when the output of the transmission state detecting means is abnormal and the automatic transmission is free from gear shift. The failure determining means implements determination while excluding the period of continuation of the state that the output of the transmission state detecting means is abnormal, from the abnormality continuation period in at least a part of a gear shift period of the automatic transmission.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
