PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tear fluid secretion-promoting composition which is effective for the prevention or treatment of dry eye, and is useful as a preventive or therapeutic agent of corneal and conjunctival disorders.SOLUTION: The invention provides a tear fluid secretion-promoting composition containing as an active ingredient a compound which increases intracerebral serotonin concentration. As the compound which increases intracerebral serotonin concentration, serotonin reuptake inhibitors or serotonin precursors are preferable. As the serotonin reuptake inhibitors, paroxetine, fluvoxamine, escitalopram, and that selected from pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof are preferable. As the serotonin precursor, L-tryptophan is preferable. Preferably the composition is an oral agent.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 |
