The present invention relates to an air conditioner, and a method for controlling the same. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for controlling an air conditioner comprises: a step of recognizing a setting mode and operating a compressor; a step of operating a first control mode where an air flow rate of an indoor fan is determined in accordance with whether or not the indoor temperature is equal to or greater than a first reference temperature; a step of operating a second control mode controlled to lower a frequency of the compressor when operation of the first control mode is completed; and a step of operating a third control mode operated based on a preset temperature control zone when operation of the second control mode is completed. The second control mode comprises operation which changes the set temperature of the air conditioner in accordance with whether an increased value of the indoor temperature is equal to or greater than a second reference temperature.
