The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a thin polarizer and to a thin polarizer manufactured using same, the method comprising: a step for preparing an unstretched polyvinyl alcohol-based film having a thickness of 20 ㎛ or less, a strength applied to stretch the film by six times being 4N or greater; and a single stretching step for forming a stretched polyvinyl alcohol-based film having a thickness of 10 ㎛ or less by single stretching of the unstretched polyvinyl alcohol-based film.
