PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a mitochondrial disorder, adjusting one or more energy biomarkers, normalizing one or more energy biomarkers, or strengthening one or more energy biomarkers.SOLUTION: Disclosed are not only the treatment method or inhibiting method for mitochondrial diseases, such as Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA), Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON), mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, strokelike symptoms (MELAS), or Kearns-Sayre syndrome (KSS), but also a useful compound in the method. A useful method and compound for treatment of other diseases are disclosed. An energy biomarker useful for evaluation of a subject's metabolic state and the effect of the treatment is also disclosed.
