Various systems and method for drying and venting moderator in a calandria in a nuclear reactor for refurbishment of the nuclear reactor are disclosed. In one example embodiment, a moderator drying and venting system comprises a controller, a first inflow module coupled to the calandria and the controller to provide an inflow of processed air to the calandria to dry out the moderator, and a first outflow module coupled to the calandria and to the controller to draw out outflow air from the calandria and to maintain a pressure inside the calandria at a pre-determined set-point.
