This electric power conversion device is provided with: a converter circuit (11) having a boost chopper (15); a capacitor (12a) that is connected between output terminals of the converter circuit (11); the boost chopper (15), which boosts the terminal voltage (vdc) of the capacitor (12a); a multi-phase inverter circuit (13); and a boost chopper control unit (16). The capacitance of the capacitor (12a) is set such that the terminal voltage (vdc) of the capacitor (12a) pulsates at a frequency twice as high as the frequency of an alternating current power supply (30) when the boost chopper remains non-operating. Output power of the multi-phase inverter circuit (13) is varied synchronously with the power supply.
