The invention relates to a metal core element (15) for a rim of a vehicle steering wheel (10), the metal core element (15) being formed by a rod (16) comprising stress concentrating sections (18), wherein the rod (16) has a reduced thickness in the stress concentrating sections (18) so as to allow bending or breaking of the rod (16) in the stress concentrating sections (18) in response to impact forces. The invention further relates to a vehicle steering wheel and method for producing the same.
